Sid Meier’s Starships Announced

StarshipsGet ready for another round of Sid Meier’s newest release.

In a trailer released today, we got our first look at the newest game from legendary strategy designer Sid Meier. Sid Meier’s Starships, slated for a Spring 2015 release, according to the trailer, seems to take the universe from Civilization: Beyond Earth and take it in a whole new direction: instead of colonizing a planet, it appears we will soon be colonizing the stars.

Starships 2

The trailer, which consists of fully-rendered cutscenes, shows no gameplay, but considering the series and the designer, we can look forward to some variation of the 4X setup Civilization has perfected. As for the title itself, it appears to be a standalone game. Firaxis has promised some form of cross-connectivity for owners of Beyond Earth, though no details were offered, but if 2K and Firaxis have proven anything over the years, it’s that when it comes to strategy, disappointment is not a possibility.

Sid Meier’s Starships will be released on a download-only format for the Windows PC, Mac and iPad platforms.
