Video Game News, Reviews and Reflection! New Articles Released Randomly Every Week!
Probably not, but he’s taking the first step to being invited to one. On New York’s Power 105.1 morning radio show, The Breakfast Club, Mr. West announced he has been working on a video game based on his song “Only One,” a track from his recent album Yeezus and featuring Paul McCartney. The game would involve “my mother going through the gates of heaven,” and working her way to the highest levels.
Musical artists have been pretty hit or miss when it comes to moving over to the video game medium. The response to Def Jam Vendetta and its sequel, Fight for NY were very well received, while games featuring 50 Cent (Bulletproof and Blood on the Sand) were less well received. The issue is that the previous games were at least more suitable to the subject matter and featured the actual performers; Kanye West’s game would involve his mother and presumably not himself (unless he interrupts gameplay…which is very possible).
Assuming the game is released on a mobile platform, it might be more successful, as in-app purchases are a booming business, with top apps generating an average of $90,000 a day based on 2013 numbers.
We’ll hear more about this in the coming months.
